Best of Siling "Xining" to holy Lhasa Seven Days Train Tour

Xining, known in Tibetan as Siling, is the capital and largest city in Qinghai province and is the largest city on the Tibetan Plateau. The elevation of Xining is 2275m, it has a population of 2.3million. Xining is origin starting station of the train to Lhasa. Lying 26 kilometers outside of Xining is Kumbum Monastery, one of the 6 main monasteries of the Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, On top of that, Kumbum Monastery is the perfect place to see yak butter sculptures, and traditional embroidery. It is a diverse city with a prominent Muslim population. The Dong Guan Grand Mosque, located in the eastern section of Xining, is one of the largest mosques in China and attracts over 50,000 Muslims each Friday for prayer time.

Itinerary

Day 1

Activities: Xining (D)

All participants must arrive in Xining, China by 3pm. Representatives of Tibet Khadak International Travel Service will meet you at the airport and will transfer you to the hotel we will be staying at, en-route we will Visit Dongguan mosque, the largest mosque in China. It was built in 1380, and now boasts a history of more than 600 years. The Mosque is not only famous for its magnificent architecture but also the highest religious learning institution of Islam. and you will have a glimpse of the city. For dinner you will taste some Xining hand pulled noodle, which is one of the most liked food in the region.

Day 2

Activities: Xining-departure (B)

After breakfast we will leave from hotel and visit Kubum Monastery (Ta'er), It is one of the six great monasteries of the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism, built in 1557 on sacred land. Still quite active with 600 monks. It is the birthplace of Tsong Khapa, founder of the Gelupa school (Yellow Hat) and is known for its sculptures of human figures, animals and landscapes carved out of Yak Butter. In the afternoon your tour guide will transfer you to railway station for your overnight train to Lhasa.

Day 3

Activities: Train ride to Lhasa, Tibet

You will spend a whole day on the train to Lhasa and enjoy fabulous scenery along the world famous Qinghai-Tibet railway, the highest railway in the world. Spectacular land of snows, boundless desert, vast grassland, grand ice mountains, and beautiful lakes will continually appear and strongly attract your heart. You will arrive in Lhasa in early afternoon or evening. Your Tibetan English speaking tour guide will transfer you to the hotel which is located within walking distance to Tibetan traditional old quarter “Barkhor” Stay overnight in Lhasa at Shambala hotel.

Day 4

Activities: Lhasa, the Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple + Barkhor (B/L/D)

We will start the day by venturing Tibet’s most charismatic building, the Potala Palace and explore the grandest of its myriad rooms. Towering above Lhasa with more than 1000 rooms, the Potala Palace served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas for hundreds of years and it embodies the best of 17th century Tibetan arts and architecture. After lunch, we will explore Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred temple and more of the Old Tibetan Quarter of Lhasa.

Day 5

Activities: Yamdrok Lake, Karola glacier, Gyeltse Pelkhor Monastery, Shigatse (B/L/D)

In the morning, we will drive from Lhasa to Gyantse via turquoise Yamdrok Lake with snow covered Mt. Nojin Kangtsang 7191m at distant view. The lake sits at an elevation of 4441 meters above sea level. Along the way to Gyantse, we will stop by the glaciers of Mt. Nojin Kangtsang at the Karo La Pass, and continue to Gyantse Town lies at 3980 meters, It is a charming small town with laid-back atmosphere with historical significance and one of the most impressive Kubum stupa (100,000 Buddha stupa) rises from a courtyard on the Pelkhor Chode Monastery. The drive from Lhasa to Gyantse covers 260 kms. After this, we will continue our journey to Shigatse town, Tibet’s 2nd Largest town. Overnight in Shigatse at Manasarovar hotel.

Day 6

Activities: Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, return to Lhasa (B/L/D)

Shigatse is noted for Tashilhunpo Monastery founded by the 1st Dalai Lama in 1447 and later become the seat of Panchen Lama reincarnation. We will walk around the pilgrim route that goes up and around the famous monastery as well as explore the massive 26 m (85-foot) beatific effigy of Maitreya, the future Buddha inside the huge monastery complex. In the afternoon, we will return to Lhasa. You will have some more time for capturing the last memory of Lhasa’s old town. Overnight at Shambala hotel.

Day 7

After breakfast we will transfer you to the airport for Departure from Lhasa
