Itinerary
Arrival in Lhasa You will be picked up at the airport or train station upon arrival and transferred to the hotel where you will rest and adjust for high altitude acclimatization. Overnight hotel in Lhasa
Begin your day by visiting Drephung monastery in the morning, it was the world largest monastery in it’s heyday, located approximately 8Km west of center Lhasa, constituted by 4 main colleges and many hundreds of dormitories for monks, with huge prayer chanting hall echoing perpetual chorus of drumbeats and deep throated prayers, chapels enshrined important relics, and communal kitchen filled up with medieval looking utensils, like ladles and cauldrons will keep your eyes active. Drephung has also been well known for its monk scholars.Later, set off to Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalailamas, build in 1755, explore many Tibetan traditional architectural styles in Norbulingka. After lunch, visit Sera Monastery, located a few kilometers north of the city. Founded in 1419, Follow your guide into the large complex, and watch monks practice an active form of Buddhist philosophical debate in the courtyards most afternoons (except Sundays). Watch the activity before returning to hotel.
Lhasa - Shigatse (280 km, 5 hours) Today, you will drive about 5 hours to Shigatse. Enjoy the views of Tibetan city streets and beautiful rural landscapes during your ride. You will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse. The full name of the monastery in Tibetan means "all fortune and happiness gathered here" or "heap of glory". Overnight: Hotel in Shigatse
Shigatse - Mt. Everest Base Camp (340 km, 5-6 hours) Leaving Shigatse for Rongbuk Monastery early in the morning, arrive in Shegar, a small town before arriving Rongbuk Monastery, along the way pass many small communities and Along the way, cross the Gyatso La Pass, which rises above 5000 meters and the Pang La pass, which rises to 5050 meters. From the Pang La pass, you get a sweeping view of the Himalaya’s where you can see 5 of the world highest mountains, including Mt. Everest. Overnight at Rongpuk Guest House or Tent
Everest Base Camp - Shigatse (340 km, 6-7 hours) Today, you will trek on the trail along Mt. Everest Base Camp for about 2.5 to 5 miles (4 to 8 kms) to view the peak of Mt. Everest. After the hike, you will return to Shigatse. Overnigh Hotel in Shigatse
Shigatse - Gyantse - Karola Glacier - Yamdrok Lake - Lhasa (360 km, 7-9 hours) You will visit Palcho Monastery and Kumbum Pagoda in Gyantse & continue set off for a day of sightseeing in the nature to visit Karola Glacier, Lake Yamdrok, and returning to Lhasa late afternoon. After breakfast, spend time at your leisure before leaving for airport or train station afterwards transfer to airport or train station and the 8-day adventure concludes.
